Death of the Accused
The two
men who were tried and acquitted of killing Emmett Till in 1955 are both
dead. Although the murder case and the trial made international headlines,
by the time of their deaths, half-brothers John William, “J.W.” Milam, and
Roy Bryant were mostly forgotten. Their deaths went unnoticed except for
brief obituaries that their families placed in their local newspapers. No
accompanying stories or news reports appeared. Click on the two links
below to read the published obituaries of the two men, and to view
photographs of their graves.
